TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — A current senator who was the first woman president of the Florida Senate now has been named "dean" of that chamber.
Gwen Margolis received the award from her colleagues on Tuesday.
The honorific goes to the Senate's longest-serving member. The Miami-Dade Democrat was president in 1990-92 and now is serving for a third time in the Legislature's upper chamber.
The 78-year-old Philadelphia native previously served in the House of Representatives and has been a Miami-Dade County Commissioner.
