HIALEAH, Fla. -

Hialeah Mayor Carlos Hernandez is launching a money-saving plan for the city's take-home vehicles on the heels of a Local 10 investigation by Jeff Weinsier.

Now, Hialeah city employees who have a take-home vehicle will pay 30 cents per mile for the distance they travel between home and work.

The plan is expected to save the city $375,000 per year.

Special law enforcement units such as K-9 police officers and SWAT team members are the only employees exempt for the new rule.
