A suspect in a hit-and-run crash that injured a University of Miami student was arrested Tuesday morning in New York, South Miami police said.
Luis Felipe Moya is accused of driving a car that hit UM student Eliza Gesh at South Dixie Highway and Southwest 57th Avenue on April 27.
Police said the 2005 Mercedes-Benz E320 drove north on South Dixie Highway after the crash, the driver leaving Gesh in the roadway.
Gesh had severe head trauma and "extensive bodily injury," South Miami police said. She was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center, which said she was discharged weeks ago.
Moya was named a suspect after workers at a South Florida body shop became suspicious about whether he was telling the truth about the cause of the damage to his Mercedes.
Moya is awaiting extradition to Miami, police said.
