A call for help to the Broward Sheriff's Office left a Deerfield Beach family with a big mess after the officers used force to take a man into custody.

The scene started to unfold Saturday night in a neighborhood near North Broward Medical Center in the 4100 block of Northeast 4th Terrace.  It ended early Sunday morning.

Neighbors said streets were blocked and police and fire crews filled the area.

A family member said the incident started when an adult man made suicide threats, got into a fight with his mother, and then barricaded himself inside their home.

David Rauch said his twin brother was taken into custody after being found hiding in the attic.

Five family members live in the home. After the stand-off the home's windows were left shattered and the framing pulled from the walls.  Video even shows a large hole in the ceiling.

"I don't know where they're going to live now," said Rauch. "I think it's a little excessive to knock down all these walls and windows for just one little suicide threat. That's to be debated with the police."

The man at the center of the distress call has been taken to the hospital for a psychological evaluation.
