Horse manure on beach angers residents

Manatee County officials say they will begin fining horseback riders who aren't picking up their animals' waste along a popular beach.

Some riders along the Palma Sola Causeway have upset neighbors and beachgoers because the horses are leaving behind unsightly manure on the sand.

The causeway has become a popular spot for horseback riding over the last few years, in part because it is one of the few places in the state that allows it along an easily-accessible beach

Officials also decided to erect signs urging horseback riders to clean up after their animals.
