Hybrid fast food restaurant to open
PDQ to open in Fort Lauderdale
The man who co-founded Outback Steakhouse is opening a hybrid fast food restaurant in Oakland Park.
"PDQ is fresh food fast. We have a whole new take on fast casual," said Tim Gannon, franchise owner of PDQ. "PDQ -- pretty darn quick."
PDQ has locations in Florida and North Carolina. It's opening its first South Florida location at 3359 North Federal Highway on Sunday, Feb. 17.
"This is food made from scratch all made in front of you," said Gannon. "Now we are taking chef inspired food into the fast food segment where this is no tipping."
PDQ offers chicken tenders, sandwiches, salads, French fries, and shakes.
"It's all really fresh and it is a huge amount," said Addie Beadnelo, a customer.
"I think on Seinfeld they call that a big salad," said Local 10's Todd Tongen.
"It's very modern. It's not like your typical fast food place," added Peri Ferrandiz.
PDQ's drive-through is also different as customers speak with an employee instead of a squawk box.
The average meal price is less than $8.
"Chicken breast meat is now a by-product because of the explosion of the chicken wings. So chicken breast meat is so well price," said Gannon.
