Jordyn Howe hearing reset

Judge resets hearing for Wednesday, wants Howe to be in court

MIAMI – Jordyn Howe, the 15-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting another student on a South Florida school bus, was not in court for a scheduled hearing Monday morning because was is in school. The judge said that was a good thing.

But what's not so good is his lack of curfew and lack of house arrest ankle monitor.

Howe is charged with manslaughter because the 40-caliber gun he had been bringing to school to show off went off on the bus and hit busmate Jina Guzman in the neck. Guzman's 7-year-old sister watched her older sister die.

"He still goes home. He still has life," said Guzman's mother, Ady DeJesus.

"We think Mr. Howe is a danger to the community," said the family's attorney.  "He obviously took the gun that killed Jina Guzman on the school bus. The feeling is he should not be free to run through this community."

When  charges were moved to adult court last week, Howe posted bond without seeing a judge.  On Monday morning, his attorney pleaded not guilty for him.

The judge reset the hearing for Wednesday and said she wants Howe to be in court.
