Convicted terrorism plotter Jose Padilla will be back in Miami in December to receive a new prison sentence after an appeals court said he deserves more time behind bars.
U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke on Thursday set a Dec. 3 sentencing date. Padilla could get life.
The 41-year-old Padilla was sentenced to 17 years in prison after he and two others were convicted in 2007 of several terrorism-related charges. He's currently scheduled for release in January 2022 with time off for good behavior.
The appeals court ruled Padilla deserves a longer sentence because he trained to kill at an al-Qaida camp in Afghanistan and had a long previous criminal record.
Padilla was held more than three years as an enemy combatant at a Navy brig before his trial.
