Lake searched in missing woman case
Woman missing since March 30
Miramar police are searching a lake in an industrial area two miles from the home of a mother of three who hasn't been seen since March 30.
Divers entered the water in a lake on the south side of the 12000 block of Miramar Parkway about 10:15 a.m. Friday.
The lake is near the home of Vilet Torrez, who disappeared after having dinner with a friend March 30. She had left her children with her estranged husband, Cid Torrez, whom police have named a person of interest in the case. He has not been arrested or charged.
Vilet Torrez's brother, Javier Blanco, said he thinks Cid Torrez killed her. He told the Department of Children and Families a month ago that Cid Torrez had threatened to "end it all" and use a gun.
Cid Torrez has temporarily lost custody of the children, but he is working to regain their custody. His attorney said he has cooperated completely, letting police search their Miramar home.
Three police divers scoured the lake Friday, as two more officers stayed in their boat. They planned to search for much of the afternoon.
