Local 10's Christina Vazquez emcees Galaxy Gala

Gala supported facility under construction in downtown Miami's Museum Park

MIAMI – Hundreds of Miami's community and business leaders attended Saturday's Galaxy Gala to celebrate and raise funds for the new Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science.

The festivities helped support the new facility that is currently under construction in downtown Miami's Museum Park, and carry an aquatic theme inspired by the 500,000 gallon aquarium that will be a part of the new building.

The Galaxy Gala, which took place at the JW Marriott Marquis, were co-chaired by Nancy and Jonathan Batchelor and Nicole and Edgar Lozano. Local 10's Christina Vazquez hosted Saturday's gala event.

The 250,000 square foot new facility, designed by internationally recognized Grimshaw Architects, is fast rising in downtown Miami's Museum Park along Biscayne Bay since its Feb. 2012 groundbreaking.

Once complete, officials say the museum will feature a lushly landscaped indoor and outdoor "living core" of terrestrial and aquatic spaces, a full dome 3D planetarium, interactive exhibits, innovative technology and two additional wings of exhibition space, learning center and cafes.

Guests were able to see live fish tanks, an LED screen over the dance floor that made them feel like they were under the sea and more.
