MFR: Tow truck, minivan struck by SUV on I-95

Miami Fire Rescue says accident occurred near NW 62nd Street exit

MIAMI – Miami Fire Rescue says a motor vehicle accident took place Sunday afternoon on northbound I-95, involving an SUV, a minivan and a tow truck.

Authorities said the accident took place near the NW 62nd Street exit of I-95 before 3:00 p.m. Sunday. According to the driver of the tow truck, a disabled blue BMW was being loaded onto a Road Ranger flatbed tow truck while a second Road Ranger tow truck provided traffic safety assistance.

MFR said the Mercedes SUV was traveling northbound when it hit the rear of the tow truck and sideswiped a minivan. The collision caused the tow truck to spin around, which sent debris into multiple traffic lanes, according to authorities.

The tow truck driver, who police said was walking to his truck, wasn't injured. Officials said the driver of the Mercedes was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

MFR said the man, woman and their two children who were riding inside the minivan, were evaluated by paramedics for bumps and bruises. The BMW and flatbed tow truck were not damaged by the impact.

The Florida Highway Patrol said they are investigating.
