A 71-year old man died after a fire destroyed his Lauderhill home.
Lauderhill Fire Rescue was called to the home in the 3300 block of NW 18th Court late Friday night. According to Division Chief Jeff Levy, when crews arrived, the house was surrounded by heavy smoke and flames.
Rescue workers found Eugene Wimbs unresponsive inside the home.
"They pulled the victim out and began CPR. Unfortunately, the CPR efforts were not successful," Levy said. Wimbs was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wimbs' wife was also home at the time of the fire. She was able to escape and was not hurt.
The house is being called a total loss.
The fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall's office, Lauderhill Fire Rescue, and the Lauderhill Police Department.
