HOLIDAY, Fla. (AP) — A 20-year-old man is accused of fatally shooting his stepfather during an argument in their Pasco County home.
Pasco County Sheriff's deputies say Jason Louis Chevere faces a first-degree murder charge. He was arrested shortly after the shooting on Thursday afternoon and remained in the Pasco County Jail Friday morning.
According to an arrest affidavit, 49-year-old Dale Wildermuth was "pushing and grabbing" Chevere and told the stepson to leave his house. Chevere went into his bedroom and took a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun from under his mattress and loaded it.
Investigators say the argument resumed and Chevere fired the gun once, hitting his stepfather in the chest.
Wildermuth was pronounced dead at the scene. Chevere left the home and walked around the neighborhood before returning home where deputies arrested him.
