ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a man is dead following a house fire in southwest Florida.
St. Petersburg police said the fire apparently started in the garage early Friday and the smoke filtered into the house. Officials say the man was immobile inside the house and wasn't able to get out.
Fire crews had difficulty reaching the unidentified victim because there was so much debris inside. Officials initially thought he died of smoke inhalation, but upon further investigation said his injuries were not consistent with a fire-related death.
Authorities said the injuries may have been self-inflicted. No other details were given.
