Tampa Bay area man gets life in prison for leading murder
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A Tampa Bay area man has been sentenced to life in prison for leading several others in a murder.
As part of a deal with Hillsborough County prosecutors to avoid the death penalty, 23-year-old Kasey Lee Ackerman pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree murder and armed kidnapping.
Five suspects were charged in the May 2010 death 26-year-old Robert Mason Brewer, who was attacked during an argument at a party. Authorities say Ackerman actually killed Brewer.
Previously, 37-year-old Randy Allen Morris received 20 years for second-degree murder and kidnapping, 23-year-old Brendan Terry received 30 years for the same charges, 41-year-old Rosanna DiMauro received 10 years for being an accessory after the fact to first-degree murder, and 21-year-old David Link received almost three years for being an accessory after the fact.
