Man honored for returning iPad, $13K

Cleaning worker at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport found items

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A cleaning worker at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport was honored Wednesday for turning in an Apple iPad and $13,000 cash he found at the airport.

Patrick Morgan, who works for Sunshine Cleaners, found the items near a tiki hut.

"I picked it up, opened it. It was an iPad and an envelope," said Morgan. "I looked in it and there was money."

He turned in the cash and the iPad.

"We need more people like Patrick," said Mark Klein, Morgan's boss at Sunshine Cleaners, who presented him with a plaque and a check for $625 during the ceremony as a reward for his good deed.

Moments later, Morgan saw a passenger sprinting his way.

"When he was running describe him. Was he in a panic?" asked Local 10's Sasha Andrade.

"Absolutely, he was," replied Morgan. "And I said, 'Don't worry. It's OK.'"

It turns out that man had just returned from a very lucky trip to Las Vegas. His luck apparently continued.

The owner of the iPad and the cash was so grateful he gave Morgan $60 as a thank you.

"I said, 'What did you do with the money?' He said, 'I gave it to a homeless person,'" said Klein.

Instead of keeping the cash, Morgan, a working father of three, gave $40 to a homeless woman and $20 to a coworker in need.

"Just a good feeling to know that I returned it and that's the bottom line. I wasn't looking for anything," he said.

"He's a man's man," said Klein.
