Man shot at Calle Ocho Festival recovering at hospital

Miami police say man in his 20s shot in buttocks

MIAMI – A man is recovering in the hospital after being shot at the Calle Ocho Festival in Miami on Sunday.

Police say the victim, who is said to be in his 20s, was shot in the buttocks during an argument on the corner of Southwest 8th Street and 11th Avenue.

The man has non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, said police.

Miami police say they do not have a lead on the gunman at this time.

The incident marked an otherwise calm and fun-filled day at the festival. The Miami Fire Department said they received 32 calls from this year's festival.

Big crowds gathered to listen to music and taste food from around the world.

"Out here, they got every flavor," said Charles Farquharson. "Cuban, Colombian, Venezuelan, Jamaican, Haitian. Man, we love it."

Calle Ocho was a big block party this year. 8th Street was shutdown from NW 27th Avenue to SW 8th Avenue.

"Everyone is so different," said one tourist. "You don't run into the same thing."

The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana also helped serve the largest pitcher of Sangria. About 132 gallons of the wine punch was handed out on Sunday.
