A man who is recovering in the hospital after being shot by police in Lauderhill was identified.
It happened in the 1700 block of Northwest 31st Avenue about 2 a.m. Thursday. Investigators say officers were called out to reports of two men walking near a metal scrapping yard and possibly breaking into businesses.
Officers arrived to find Earl Brown with a gun in his hand.
"At some point during that encounter, they fired their weapons and the male was struck," said Lauderhill Police Capt. Rick Rocco.
Brown worked as a watchman for International Global Metals. At the time of the shooting, Brown wasn't wearing anything indicating his work as a security guard.
"He had it in his hand. Whether he held it up or pointed it, that is still under investigation," said Rocco.
None of the officers that were involved in the shooting were hurt.
The shooting is still under investigation.
Brown is listed in stable condition.
