A man was shot and killed in Miami just after 3 p.m. Saturday on Northeast 45th Street near the intersection of Northeast 1st Avenue, according to police.
Two men said after hearing a shot, they ran down the street to see a man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his neck. They said they tried to slow the bleeding down and that the victim couldn't talk because he was bleeding out of his mouth.
When police arrived, the man was still alive witnesses said, however he died a short time later, police said.
People who live nearby said they knew the victim who lived in the area. Workers at the Muha Market said he would come in often.
"I knew him for a few months, he was a really nice guy," Lorenzo Duncanson said. "He knew a lot of people. Everyone knew him. Never did anything wrong to anyone around here."
People in the neighborhood said this is an area that has always struggled with crime.
"I've heard gun shots many times so it's not something uncommon," Chris Hunt said.
However, it appeared to many that things were getting better, which is why a middle-of-the-day murder like this one is particular disturbing.
"The neighborhood has been actually straightening up and it's sad this had to happen to put our neighborhood back in that state of mind," Hunt said. "It's a really sad tragedy. We just hope the police catch whoever did this."
