COOPER CITY, Fla. -

A memorial bike ride was held Sunday morning for two cyclists killed by an alleged hit-and-run driver in Cooper City last weekend.

According to BSO, Obrian Ricardo Oakley, 26, was trying to run away from police after he and Sadik Rashad Baxter, were caught burglarizing cars in the Rock Creek community. In the attempt to get away, two cyclists -- Chris McConnell and Dean Amelkin -- were killed.

The ride on Sunday started at 7 a.m. on Sheridan Street at Hiatus Road. Cyclists continued East on Sheridan and stopped for a moment of silence at Palm Avenue, where the crash happened.

The cyclists then headed North to Florios Restaurant, where the pair often ate breakfast. A second moment of silence was observed here.

The Broward Sheriff's Office escorted the cyclists.

The group ride is not only meant to remember the two victims. It is also intended to raise both money and awareness for Florida's Share The Road program. To donate, click here.
