Miami City Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones to seek re-election
MIAMI (AP) — Miami City Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones plans to seek re-election.
The Miami Herald reports (http://hrld.us/10VpNfd ) Spence-Jones made the announcement Friday.
She was charged with bribery and grand theft and removed from office in 2010 by then-Gov. Charlie Crist. But a jury acquitted her of bribery and the grand theft charges were dropped and Spence-Jones returned to the city commission.
She also recently sued the mayor and the county's top prosecutor, claiming an unsuccessful corruption case against her was a conspiracy based on a political vendetta. The federal lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.
Spence-Jones represents the district that includes Overtown, Little Haiti and Liberty City. She was elected to the city commission year years ago.
