Dave Downey replaces William "Shorty" Bryson

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue has a new chief.
The Miami-Dade Commission unanimously approved Dave Downey as the new chief on Wednesday.
Downey will replace outgoing Chief William "Shorty" Bryson, whose last day will be on February 1.
Downey, 49, is being promoted from Assistant Fire Chief.
He has been with the county’s fire rescue department since 1988.
Bryson has been chief since Aug. 2011.
