MIAMI – Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho is expected to propose a $1.2 billion bond referendum to the school board in an effort to improve the county's schools.
Money from the bond would go toward upgrading, renovating and replacing facilities, even entire school campuses. The bond would also help add new technology and digital resources to the county's schools.

However, the bond needs more than the school board's approval to move forward. If it gets the go ahead this week, the bond will appear on the November 6th ballot so citizens can vote on the additional funds. The proposal would cost homeowners about $19 dollars more on their property taxes in 2014.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools has not taken a step like this since 1988 when voters approved a $980 million bond for improvements.
