A South Florida high school dedicated to environmental studies has been nominated for a national green award.
TERRA Environmental Research Institute in Miami-Dade County is one of three schools that will represent the state in the Green Ribbon Schools Award Program.
The new U.S. Department of Education program was established to recognize exemplary achievement in environmental impact, health and education.
Opened in the fall of 2009, TERRA is a magnet school created to be a learning center for environmental stewardship.
Winners of the Green Ribbon Schools Awards will be announced on April 23.
Although not nominated, Driftwood Middle School Academy of Health and Wellness in Broward County received high marks in the nomination process.
