MIAMI -

The Miami Herald will be moving from its downtown Miami location to the former headquarters of the U.S. Southern Command in nearby Doral.

The Herald announced plans Thursday to move into the new location in May 2013. The Miami Herald Media Company says it also will begin building a printing plant on the property next door in April.

The newspaper's parent company -- McClatchy Co. -- sold the 13.9-acre Herald property to the Genting Group for $236 million last year. Genting has announced plans to build a $3.8 billion destination resort with a casino at the site. The newspaper will remain in the downtown location rent-free until 2013.

The U.S. Southern Command moved into a new facility in Doral in 2010.
