A 25-year-old man was charged with sexual assaulting a woman after robbing her and her boyfriend in Coconut Grove.

Gary Arroliga was arrested Thursday.

The incident happened in the 3300 block of Matilda Street about 5 a.m.

Police said the couple was outside their vehicle when Arroliga, armed with a handgun, approached, demanded their belongings, and ordered the woman to the ground.

The boyfriend was able to get away, but the woman was forced behind a dumpster, where she was raped by Arroliga, said police.

Arroliga was charged with 1 count of armed sexual battery, 2 counts of armed robbery, 1 count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and 1 count of false imprisonment.
