The Coast Guard and local agencies suspend the search for a missing 22-year-old man after his body was found a half mile east of Haulover Beach about 4 p.m. Monday.
The body of Angel Bello was found after the boat he was on capsized in the Haulover Inlet. His family identified the body.
Jonathan Rodriguez, 32, told Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation officers that he and Bello were heading out of Haulover Inlet to go fishing about 5:30 a.m. when rough waters capsized their 17-foot boat.
"The boat started taking on water and soon thereafter, they had to abandon the boat," said Jorge Pino with the FWC. "They ended up in the water, and the clothing started to weight them down and the surviving member had to take off his clothing just to make it to shore."
The 17-foot boat was found before dawn. At one point, 11 boats and two helicopters were involved in the search.
Searchers also located a debris field of sandals and an oil bottle. But hours into the search, there was no sign of Bello.
"The investigator thought it was a good idea for us to bring out the surviving member of the fishing trip and he put us right on the spot where he thought he last saw his friend alive," said Pino. "And, from that point on, we put divers in the water, and we were able to find him shortly after."
Pino said neither man was wearing a life jacket.
"If you fall overboard, you're done. If you don't have a flotation device, you are -- you're done," said Pino.
