POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The family of a slain Broward Sheriff's Office sergeant is making a renewed plea to help find his killer.

Sgt. Chris Reyka was shot and killed outside a Pompano Beach Walgreens store on Aug. 10, 2007. The question of who pulled the trigger is still a mystery.

Reyka's case is the only unsolved slaying of a law enforcement officer in decades.

The 51-year-old officer was approaching a suspicious car in the parking lot of the Walgreens when an unknown gunman fired rounds at Reyka, leaving him for dead.

In the year since, investigators have searched for the white car seen in a surveillance recording after the shooting.

Detectives have searched various locations for the weapon, including a canal near Interstate 95 and Powerline Road.

Police are still hopeful "someone somewhere knows something about this case" and that they just need to be coaxed into coming forward.
