The emergency management director in Monroe County is asking visitors to leave the Florida Keys. Anyone who stays is asked to stay indoors throughout the storm.
Residents of mobile homes, boats, and in low-lying areas were being asked to find shelter.
Key West International Airport closed at 7 p.m. Saturday. Florida Keys Marathon Airport was also closed.
Four shelters -- Key West High School at 2100 Flagler Ave, Sugarloaf School at mile marker 19, Stanley Switlik School at MM 48 in Marathon, and Coral Shores High School at MM 90 in Islamorada -- will remain open until noon Monday.
One viewer sent a picture to email@example.com showing the parking lot was full at Key West High School where the ground is higher to protect the vehicles from storm surge.
All federal, state, county, and municipal parks and beaches are closed. All county and municipal offices and public schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday. Garbage pickup is canceled for Monday.
The Department of Children and Families in Monroe County will be closed Monday.
The Monroe County Schools District has canceled classes for Monday and Tuesday.
