MIAMI -

Miami Jewish Health is partnering with the Miami Veterans Healthcare System to help elderly veterans continue living at home instead of entering into costly nursing homes.

The group is targeting veterans who are Medicare eligible, but have incomes that are too high to qualify for Medicaid and do not have sufficient income to pay for the Florida PACE program. Veterans will receive comprehensive acute, home care, skilled care and other social services that will allow them to live in their home environment.

Last year, the average cost for a nursing home resident in the Miami VA System was $100,000 a year. The PACE program costs about $30,000 a year.

The partnership was announced Friday.
