Participants ready for Key West sailing regatta
Key West 2013 sailing regatta set to begin Monday
Less than two months ago, champion sailor Terry Hutchinson expected to spend this week continuing to prepare for the America's Cup challenger series.
Instead, the Annapolis, Md., resident is to race aboard a Farr 40-class-monohull at the five-day Quantum Key West 2013 sailing regatta set to begin Monday off the Florida Keys.
Hutchinson's schedule radically changed after being terminated in early December as skipper and helmsman of Artemis Racing, the Swedish syndicate challenging for the 34th America's Cup.
He agreed to sail aboard friend Jim Richardson's Farr 40 dubbed Barking Mad.
Hutchinson spent the past two years learning how to maneuver speedy wing sail multihull boats. After steering some of the fastest and most risky sailing yachts in the world, Hutchinson does not foresee problems transitioning on a smaller monohull.
