October is 'Bullying Awareness Month' and some South Florida elementary school kids are being treated to a musical play which teaches them how to stop the cycle of bullying.
Students at Bethune Elementary got a special showing of "Sticks and Stones," a one-woman play about bullying.
The star and creator of the show, Lyle Cogen, travels the nation, hoping to raise awareness.
"I came up with this show after observing all the meanness that was going on all around me," Cogen said.
She says most parents have no idea how much bullying is prevalent in schools.
"There's a whole world that children have and live. Whatever you are lucky enough that your child lets you into, then that's what you know," Cogen said.
The show gets students involved, and shows the perspective from a bully, a bystander and a victim.
"The fact that we have somebody coming to our school, talking about how bullying works and what you can do to stop it, is just touching," said student Josie Alcinor.
Sticks and Stones will be presented at 10 a.m. Friday at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
Tickets are $6.
