LAUDERHILL, Fla. -

A 15-year-old boy was stabbed by four other teenagers in Lauderhill.

The teenager, identified by family as Jahfari Dixon, was attacked and stabbed in the 2900 block of Northwest 56th Avenue about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Detectives said they believe the stabbing was the result of a prior altercation at school.

Dixon's family said the 10th grader at Boyd Anderson High School had been trying to protect a younger cousin from being harassed by older former students after school.

The family told Local 10 they believe the older boys eventually went after him Tuesday when he was walking to a family party in Lauderhill.

"They just came out of nowhere and just hit us," said Dixon's twin brother, Jahni.

Jahni said his brother was stabbed in the back and in his side before he collapsed in his arms.

Jahfari was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition as of Tuesday night.

"They tried to take his life, but they couldn't take his life because God got him. He's still breathing," said Dixon's mother, Alasia Dixon.

Detectives said the attackers ran west into an apartment complex and remain at large.
