Police: Man beaten, choked to death, thrown in ocean
2 suspects charged with second degree murder
Police said two Miami Beach men are charged with fatally beating and choking a man, and then disposing of the body in the ocean.
According to Miami Beach Police, Jonathan Huskey, 20, and Warren Hernandez, 43, were arrested in connection to the murder of a man who was found floating in the ocean at about 69th Street and the beach. The victim was found by two citizens on Nov. 19, around 10 p.m., who then called police.
The victim sustained trauma to the side of his neck, the back of his neck, front of his neck, and his upper back, according to the arrest affidavit.
On Nov. 24, detectives received information that Huskey and Hernandez were responsible for the murder.
Huskey admitted his involvement to police. According to the arrest affidavit, Huskey told police he was with Hernandez, the victim, and a witness on the night of Nov. 19. He said he was involved in an argument with the victim. He said the fight escalated when the victim pushed him.
The victim left the area, but came back a while later. That's when Huskey said he punched the man several times. While the victim was on the ground, Hernandez kicked him in the neck, and then choked him until he thought the man had died.
Hernandez directed Huskey to check if the man was breathing and then directed him to break his neck, according to the affidavit. Huskey grabbed the victim's neck with both hands and attempted to snap his neck. Once the man had stopped breathing, the suspects covered his head with sand.
According to the affidavit, Henrandez then told Huskey to dispose of the body in the ocean. Huskey then dragged the dead body into the water.
Both men are charged with second degree murder.
