Police: Miami Beach carpenter attacked coworker with machete

A carpenter for the City of Miami Beach was charged with attacking one of his coworkers with a machete.

Guillermo Baez Del Castillo is charged with attempted first-degree murder with a deadly weapon. Baez Del Castillo, 63, appeared before a Miami-Dade judge on Wednesday morning and was given no bond.

Baez Del Castillo became involved in an argument with a coworker during a break at work, according to the arrest affidavit. Baez Del Castillo tried to hit the victim, but was stopped.

Baez Del Castillo then grabbed a machete and began slashing the victim with it. A witness tackled Baez Del Castillo, stopping the attack, and held him until police arrived.

The victim suffered cuts to his torso, leg and arm. Police said his left arm was nearly severed and that he suffered life-threatening blood loss. His condition was not immediately released.
