Police: Shooting suspect found, hospitalized
Man fatally shot in Plantation parking lot
A fatal shooting suspect is in police custody after police said his wife told them he took pills and was lying on the floor of their apartment shortly after the shooting.
David Lawrence Nelson II, 31, was found lying in an apartment complex parking lot at 1380 NW 80th Terrace in Harbor town about 6 p.m. He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses told Plantation police they saw a man shoot Nelson, who was trying to run away from him. Police said the gunman continued shooting at Nelson after he fell down, then walked south through the parking lot.
Police said that when residents were allowed back into their apartments, a woman told officers her husband was lying on the floor and had taken pills. The man was semiconscious, and police said they found a gun.
A witness identified the man as the person who shot Nelson, Plantation police said.
The suspect was taken to Westside Regional for treatment.
Police have not released the suspect's identity.
