Police: Teen rams cop, flips car

16-year-old driver crashes Ford Taurus at Southwest 44th Street, 142nd Avenue

MIAMI – A 16-year-old driver rammed a police officer's vehicle, led more officers on a short chase, and finally flipped his car on to its side, say police.

The crash happened at Southwest 44th Street and 142nd Avenue about noon Thursday.

A marked unit saw the teenager running stop signs and driving erratically on Southwest 14th Street at 142nd Avenue, says the Miami-Dade Police Department.

The officer tried to make a traffic stop, say police. The driver pulled in to a driveway but then put his car in reverse and rammed the officer.

That officer wasn't injured.

Police say the driver tried hitting other police vehicles during the chase, which ended when the driver lost control and flipped his Ford Taurus.

The driver tried running away but was apprehended, say police. His name wasn't immediately released.

The driver is charged with three counts of assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon; fleeing/eluding; revisiting arrest without violence; and, reckless driving.
