Police help Scout retire American flags as project
Boynton Beach police help boy retire 500 American flags for Scout project
A 14-year-old boy hopes to retire 500 American flags as part of an Eagle Scout project — with the help of Boynton Beach police.
The department says Brian Blickle wants to earn his Eagle Scout ranking through this project to retire the unserviceable flags with respect and dignity. Blickle was inspired by his participation in a Veteran's Day flag ceremony.
The eighth-grader will host a flag disposal ceremony next month. He already has about half of his goal, but residents are encouraged to drop off worn or tattered flags at the Boynton Beach Police Department by Wednesday evening.
Police Chief Matt Immler, who was an Eagle Scout, is also encouraging residents to donate the flags to Blickle.
