A prescribed burn is planned in Port St. Lucie if the weather holds up.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Savannas Preserve State Park will conduct the Thursday. Some 35 acres of pine flatwoods will be burned.
A state park's statement says prescribed burning helps to restore healthy forests and natural communities, reduce undergrowth that accumulates over time and decreases the potential for wildfire. Burned lands experience an increase in native wildflowers, birds and other wildlife.
