MIAMI – Friday March 1st is the deadline to file property tax exemptions in Miami-Dade County is
This year, there are two exemptions for which you could be eligible.

Senior citizens can now file for a long-term resident exemption. If you are a low-income senior citizen and have owned your property for at least 25 years, you could save up to 60 percent on your property taxes.
Also new this year, if you are the surviving spouse of a first responder who died in the line of duty, you could be eligible for a credit.
That could save you about 2 percent on your property taxes.
"For the seniors who are on fixed incomes, it is a huge benefit," said Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser Carlos Lopez-Cantera. "I've seen them personally in their homes. A lot of people make decisions on whether or not they turn on their air conditioning or buy their medicine or their groceries. They have to make tough decisions like that, so anything we can do to try to make ends meet, I want to try and do."
On Wednesday night, Lopez-Cantera will hold a town hall meeting to answer questions and help applicants file their exemptions.
The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the North Dade Regional Library, 2455 NW 183rd Street in Miami Gardens.
