BOCA RATON, Fla. -

Help protect yourself from identity theft by getting your most personal documents shredded.

On Saturday, Jan. 28, Boca Raton Police are teaming up with the Microshred Corporation for a free document shredding event.

The document-shredding trucks will be parked at the Boca Raton Town Center Mall in the parking lot near Sears.

Anyone can take their documents to have them shredded for free from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

More than 15 million people reported having their identities either stolen or misused last year. Florida had the highest per capita rate of reported identity thefts in the United States. The overall losses from identity theft last year were close to $37 billion.

Shredding your personal documents is the first step to fighting identity theft.

Officers from the Boca Raton Police Crime Prevention Unit will be at the mall to give advice about how to prevent identity theft.
