LAKELAND, Fla. -

You could soon be able to order your sandwich online from the Publix deli, instead of waiting in line at the store.

The grocery chain is testing an online ordering system at a store near corporate headquarters in Lakeland. The service could be extended to as many as 50 stores by the end of 2012 if all goes well.

"Our customers tell us they love the deli products," Publix spokeswoman Shannon Patten told the Tampa Bay Times. "They just want to get them a little quicker."

When ordering a sandwich you will be able to request immediate pickup, or specify a time you would like your sandwich to be ready. Stores will also have kiosks so shoppers can place an order, then shop while they wait. Customers will also be able to save their favorite sandwiches under their profile.
