NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -

A woman tried to convince a purse thief to give her back her belongings Wednesday, but instead, he dragged her with his car in a North Miami Beach parking lot, she said.

Maria Penna Misk and her sister, who are visiting family in South Florida from Brazil, went shopping at Costco, located at 14585 Biscayne Boulevard, at 2 p.m. Tuesday. They were loading groceries into their car when a man grabbed Misk's purse.

Misk said she ran after the man, who got into a waiting car. She begged for him to return her bag, which contained her passport and her information, and he closed the car window and dragged her several feet.

"I asked him, 'Please, give my passport -- only my passport,' and I put my hand inside the car," Misk said. "Mad, upset, a little bit shocking. I can't believe that this happened to me."

Misk's face had scabs all over one side after the incident.

"They stole all my documents. My money. Everything," Misk said.

Misk is working with the Brazilian consulate and plans to return home Friday, even if she is unable to get her passport back.

Misk said the thief was a white male in his 30s or 40s, and his alleged accomplice inside the car was a white female, also in her 30s.

She described the thief's car as an older model, four-door, white sedan.

North Miami Beach police are investigating.
