Police look for shooter in Rick Ross drive-by

Rapper's Rolls Royce crashes into building on Las Olas Blvd.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ Rapper Rick Ross was the intended target of multiple gunshots fired along a Fort Lauderdale street Monday morning, police say.

Around 5 a.m. Monday, Fort Lauderdale police received multiple calls from residents who heard shots fired near Las Olas Blvd. and 15th Ave.

"It was just a lot of gunfire. Bop, bop, bop, bop. It sounded like it was automatic," said an employee at the Floridian, a popular 24-hour diner near the scene of the shooting.

Fort Lauderdale police say two people were riding in a silver Rolls Royce headed east on Las Olas Boulevard when another car pulled up alongside of them and began firing off rounds.

"Nine or ten shots," is what nearby resident George Mazicki said he heard. "Rapid fire, an AK-47 or pretty large rifle."

The Rolls Royce dodged the spray of bullets, but slammed into an apartment building on 15th Avenue while trying to get away.

"A giant kaboom knocked me off the bed and I went to the front door and all I saw was a car," said Beth Balk, who lives in the building.

Police identified the two in the car as rapper Rick Ross and Shateria Moragne-el.

Ross has recently received death threats from the Gangster Disciples, a Chicago-based gang angry with Ross for using the name of their leader in his single, BMF.

"They asked him to get out of the car and he and his girlfriend sat on the side and waited to get some information to find out if he was the victim," Balk said.

An employee at the Floridian, who did not want to be identified, said he saw Ross and Moragne-el being questioned by police inside the restaurant soon after the shootout.Ā

"They looked disheveled. They looked like they had been through something," he said.

Police are still searching for the car and the suspect responsible for firing those shots. Anyone with information is asked to contact Fort Lauderdale police.
