Veteran police officers Roger Castillo and Amanda Haworth were shot and killed Jan. 20, 2011, while serving warrant at a Liberty City home. Police said they were gunned down by a man wanted on murder charges.
Family, friends and former colleagues gathered at Miami-Dade Police headquarters in Doral, where a butterfly garden was unveiled in honor of Castillo and Haworth.
"It's been a year from today," said Castillo's wife, Officer Debbie Castillo. "He was an extraordinary father, wonderful son."
It was an emotional ceremony, where hundreds honored and remembered two officers who made a big difference in this community.
