FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -

A longtime Broward Commissioner and former Mayor now has her sights set on Washington, according to reports.

BrowardBeat.com reported on Friday that Kristin Jacobs will run for the new 22nd Congressional District in November as a Democrat. The new District 22 will represent much of Northeast Broward County and Southeast Palm Beach County.

Jacobs' camp would only confirm to Local10 that an announcement about her future is coming in a few days.

If she runs, Jacobs will hope to replace Republican U.S. Rep. Allen West who is leaving District 22 to run for the new District 18. That district will serve much of Northern Palm Beach County.

West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel and Patrick Murphy have already announced plans to run for the Democratic nomination for District 22.
