A report by the Miami-Dade County Office of Commission Auditor (OCA) shows red light cameras may be reducing crashes.
The OCA gathered data from 22 Miami-Dade County communities using the cameras and found:
- Aventura reports a 57 percent reduction in crashes at intersections using red light cameras since 2010.
- Miami Beach reports a 17 percent reduction in crashes at four intersections.
- Miami Gardens shows a 68 percent reduction in crashes at 12 intersections.
- Miami Springs reports a 23 percent reduction in crashes at Northwest 36th Street and 42nd Avenue.
The findings are consistent with report by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
