Restoration of 122-year-old Brevard beach home nearly finished
The restoration of the oldest home in Brevard County is nearly complete, keeping a slice of old Florida intact for future generations.
Florida Today reports (http://on.flatoday.com/TAC00B ) that the Ryckman House project was to be dedicated in a ceremony Saturday.
Various records peg the construction between 1889 and 1890. It was built by Melbourne Beach pioneer Rufus Beaujean for its first owner, Jacob Fox.
The white-and-green house was built in the Florida Vernacular style. Last week, a roofing contractor finished $3,600 in water-damage repairs to the wraparound porch.
Since last summer, volunteers rebuilt the stairwell, reinstalled original pine beadboard on interior walls, and removed upstairs wall partitions.
The local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter raised funds for a historical marker by selling U.S. flags.
