DALLAS -

Police in Texas are offering $20,000 for information that leads them to a convicted sex offender who they stabbed a Miami-Dade police detective.

The Grapevine Police Department announced the increase of the reward Thursday. They are looking for 42-year-old convicted sex offender Alberto Morales

Meantime, two top officials from Miami-Dade County are traveling to North Texas to meet with Jaime Pardinas, the police detective hospitalized in serious condition with stab wounds.

Miami-Dade County Deputy Mayor Genaro "Chip" Iglesias and Miami-Dade Police Deputy Director Juan Perez will visit Thursday with the detective and his family while assisting in the search Morales.

Pardinas, 54, and another Miami-Dade detective had stopped at a Dallas-area Walmart Monday night with Morales. While one detective was inside, Morales used a sharp piece broken from his eyeglasses to stab Pardinas and flee. Morales was being transported from Florida to Nevada.

Dark-colored video showed Morales outside the store as he walked away from a grey sport-utility vehicle.

Police say Pardinas is in serious condition at a Dallas hospital and is expected to recover.

In 911 calls released Wednesday, Pardinas was heard breathing heavily as he told a dispatcher what happened.

Morales is now on the Texas Dept. of Public Safety's Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitives' list.

Public records show Morales has charges dating back to 1994.
