Road closures, power outages due to Hurricane Sandy

Crews working to fix problems in Broward, Miami-Dade

SOUTH FLORIDA ā€“ Hurricane Sandy continued its track past South Florida Friday. While the storm is not having a direct impact in our area, it is causing problems on the roads.

On Friday morning, traffic lights were out at Federal Highway and Sunrise Boulevard. Also, the left turn lane from East Sunrise Boulevard to Federal Highway was blocked off to traffic. P

Overall, 4,760 customers were without power in Miami-Dade County. In Broward County 6,150 customers were without electricity.

The storm surge also closed A1A in Fort Lauderdale between Sunrise Boulevard north to NE 20th Street.Ā  Water from large waves covered the roadway and made it impassible.Ā
